VALTHJÓFSSTAÐUR
Country chapel famous for its medieval carved wooden door, the only medieval carved door in Iceland.
It is nice to take a walk through Hallormstaður forest (the largest forest in Iceland) and stop by the stone bridge, where the country chapel of Valthjófsstaður is located. The chapel is famous for its medieval carved wooden door ("knight and lion" motif), the only medieval carved door in Iceland, which is on display in the National Museum of Iceland. Take a break to admire the church and walk around it. Further down the road you will come across the house of the writer Gunnar Gunnarsson (Skriurklaustur).
