A remarkable forest, the largest in Iceland, with different species of trees to discover by the lake and recharge your batteries.
Located by the lake, Hallormsstaður is the largest forest in Iceland. It covers 740 ha. Owned by the state forestry company, it is the best example of reforestation in Iceland, with over 40 different tree species (including many Alaskan spruces, larches, red firs and pines). In 1899, the Icelandic Parliament passed a law to protect the woods at Hallormsstaður. Good to know, it's possible to camp on site and enjoy a natural and relaxing setting, despite the rather basic common facilities.
