Hengifoss lies on the west bank of the Lögurinn, just over 30 km southwest of Egilsstaðir (route 931). It is the third highest in Iceland, tumbling 120 m into a steep canyon. To get close to it, you'll need about an hour from the path that starts from the parking lot. Along the way, you can see the more modest Litlanesfoss. Although not difficult, this hike has a 230-meter vertical drop and the terrain can be muddy, so it's best to wear suitable footwear.
