HOUSE OF NONNI (NONNAHÚS)
One of the oldest houses in Akureyri, the birthplace of the Jesuit pastor Jon Sveinsson
Nonnahús House, built in 1850, is one of the oldest houses in Akureyri. It is the birthplace of the Jesuit pastor Jón Sveinsson (1857-1944), author of children's books under the pen name Nonni. A collection of personal objects and his editions in several languages can be seen here. Jón Sveinsson was only 12 years old when his father died, but a French nobleman paid for his studies in France. It was not until the age of 55 that he devoted himself to writing.
