These woods, south of the city towards the airport, already form part of the future green belt that is destined, one day in the future, to surround the city of Akureyri. It is a very popular recreation area with many hiking trails, children's playgrounds, outdoor barbecue facilities and a lake. In winter, children roll around in the snow or learn to ski. The first tree was planted here in 1952. The dominant species are Arctic birch and larch, but there are also other tree species.
