DJUPAVIK EXHIBITION
A former herring factory, the largest of its kind in Iceland, which had a period of splendor and grandeur in Djupavik.
This old herring factory was opened in 1935 and was the largest of its kind in Iceland. For more than twenty years, it enjoyed a period of splendor and grandeur, until herring began to leave Húnaflói Bay in 1951. This small exhibition has been set up in the old factory and tells the story of the village's heyday, from expansion to demise. Guided tours of the old factory are organized daily at 10 a.m. or 2 p.m. (fee payable). Sigur Rós performed here in 2006.
