Church designed by architect Jon Haraldsson, with bold futuristic lines reminiscent of an ocean liner in Stykkishólmur

The church of Stykkishólmur or Stykkishólmskirkja has nothing to envy to the most beautiful churches of the country, like the famous Hallgrímskirkja. Very modern and surprising, it was designed by the architect Jón Haraldsson. You won't be able to miss it when you visit the city! It has bold futuristic lines that resemble an ocean liner (or, according to some, a whale skeleton) in profile. The interior, with its myriad of light bulbs hanging from the ceiling, is also worth a look. A nice detour if you like the slightly futuristic style.

Architecture surprenante
Surprenante architecture pour cette église qui vaut le détour et qui finalement rappelle parfaitement l'univers maritime islandais.

Amazing modern church made of concrete, very white dominating the town of Stykkisholmur. Vaguely resemble a sailing. Nothing comparable to the traditional churches.
