KIRKJUFELL HOTEL
Unique village hotel in Grundarf Jordur, located on the harbor, between the canneries and fishermen's workshops
The only hotel in the village is housed in a former sailor's pension, and is therefore logically located on the port, between the canneries and fishermen's workshops. Originally, the fishermen prepared their bait on the ground floor. On the first floor were the dining room and the dormitories. The top floor was used to store nets and other fishing equipment. Today, the house has been restored and expanded with additional rooms. Good to know: the hotel was once called Hotel Framnes, it is now called Kirkjufell Hotel.

Bonne literie et très propre
* Beds were comfy
* Sink water tastes good
* Doors lock well, but they’re a little confusing
* Within walking distance of everything in the town, including restaurants
* Beautiful view of mountains and ocean from our room, and likely most of the rooms due to location of the hotel and windows
* The window opens more than just a crack but not so much that you’ll fall out, which is nice for getting some fresh air in.
* No cigarette smell!!!
* Rooms are very clean
* Kind and helpful staff
* They have real tissues which was wonderful! Not the garbage “tissue paper” kind.
* Lighting is good in the rooms
* Check in was easy and quick!
* Room is well-heated!
* Good amount of storage space for the size of the room.
* Good blackout curtains (nice for midnight sun)
Cons:
* Either lack of parking or no clear parking area (we parked in a small strip in the front of the hotel where we noticed parking spots)
* There was a stuffy smell in the room which we think came from the bathroom. There was grey mold clogging a ceiling fixture that we think is a heater.
* I don’t trust the outlets. We plugged in the hair drier provided by the hotel and turned it on. We saw sparks shoot out and seconds later the drier turned off. We refused to charge our phones in the hotel fearing the outlets would ruin something. This has not happened at any other hotel or site we’ve stayed at.
* The stairs are very steep and small, making them hard to climb.
* The hotel itself is old, so some pieces are coming apart a little bit. The laminate on the floor has some cracks and the carpet and walls aren’t in top shape, but they’re clean and well maintained. Not cheaply maintained or anything, just old.
* The price is steep, even taking into account the remote location. The rooms are also small for the price, but that is common in Iceland.
* Very thin walls. I could hear doors and people talking in the hallways and even some talk in the room next to mine.
Other notable things:
* No mini fridge
La propietaria, una señora paquistaní, no mostró la más mínima empatía. Ni siquiera nos devolvía el saludo a los integrantes del grupo. No me alojaría nunca aquí.
