HVAMMUR CHURCH AND FARM
A farmhouse steeped in history located not far from trail 590 in Búđardalur
Situated not far from the 590 (unpaved) road, this farmhouse is steeped in history and makes a nice detour on your route if you have the time. The land here was settled in the late 9th century by the Unnur people. Several centuries later, Snorri Sturluson (1179-1241), one of the most brilliant scholars of the medieval era, was born here. It was also here that Árni Magnússon (1663-1730) grew up, a scholar renowned for collecting and preserving a large number of medieval Icelandic manuscripts.
