GRÁBRÓK
A curious volcano with a 3,000 year old crater, a particularly enchanting place on sunny days in Bifrost
Not far from the hamlet of Bifröst stands the Grábrók. This curious volcano has a 3,000 year old crater on top. It's easy to climb up to the top; from its low summit you can see the Bifröst campus, Hreðavatn, Norðurá and the Grábrókarhaun lava field, which was formed during a fissural eruption that also formed the Grábrók cone. The area has been protected since 1962, and is particularly enchanting on sunny days when fields of lupines cover the ground in shades of purple as far as the eye can see.
