This is the former Nordbahnhof or northern railway station. From here you can reach the Czech Republic. This imposing station dates back to 1838 and was essential to the Austro-Hungarian Empire. It was badly damaged during the Cold War. Adjacent to the former route of the Iron Curtain, it was relegated to the status of a regional station. Modernized in 2006, at the gateway to the Prater, it has once again become a major station, served, like Wien Mitte, by the train from the airport.
