HUNDERTWASSER HOUSE
This experimental, humanist and ecological collective home was designed in 1983 by the visionary Hundertwasser.
It was commissioned by the City of Vienna. This experimental, humanistic and ecological collective dwelling was designed in 1983 by the visionary Hundertwasser. On stage, colors, undulations and gilding in the style of this original artist who placed Man and Nature at the center of his research, claiming no artistic quality, seeking no recognition from his peers or intellectual circles, resolutely offbeat, undeniably poetic and totally independent. There's nothing regular or symmetrical about the Hundertwasser building, but curves, vegetation, communal spaces for conviviality and nods to nature. It's a house of utopia, also known as Hundertwasser Village, which continues to attract students and architects from all over the world. The floor undulates, the colors burst, and right next door, in the gallery also signed by Hundertwasser, temple merchants sell plastic trinkets like souvenirs, postcards or T-shirts in the painter's colors, sandwiches...
This village is an achievement in the image of Hundertwasser, who explained: "It's big and small at the same time, structured and anarchic, capable of encompassing the Viennese style and then moving away from it all the better. You're greeted by water, trees, color, life...". An astonishing discovery that makes you want to go to the museum dedicated to Hundertwasser a few blocks away to learn more about this surprising and admirable Viennese.
