EPHESOS MUSEUM (EPHESOS MUSEUM)
Museum presenting the results of Austrian archaeological expeditions to Asia Minor in the late century.
This museum is an annex of the Kunsthistorisches Museum, the museum of art history. It presents the fruit of Austrian archaeological expeditions carried out at the end of the 19th century in Asia Minor, notably at Ephesus. Among the most remarkable ancient remains is the Parthian bas-relief, built to the glory of Lucius Verus, brother of Marcus Aurelius, founder of Vienna. This frieze adorned a temple more than 70 m long, hence its monumental size.

Y are exhibited works, marble or bronze as well as the major work of the museum, the large frieze monument Parthes, high in Ephesus by the Senate of Rome in 170 to celebrate the victory of the emperor Lucius Verus over Parthes. The monument was an altar the type of Ara Pacis in Rome. The friezes represent the life of Lucius Verus, from its adoption until his apotheosis of the Gods.
It is a superb and unknown museum is worth the detour.
