Museum housing an impressive collection of porcelain tableware, silver and vermeil flatware...

The beautiful Empress Elisabeth is a cult figure. Housed in the imperial apartments of the Hofburg Palace, the Sissi Museum (Sisi in German) confronts myth and truth. You'll discover many of Elisabeth's personal effects, as well as the most famous portraits of the empress. You enter into the intimacy and legend of this Austro-Hungarian empress, who left her mark on history and continues to inspire romantics. Sissi's private life is revealed, with her cult of beauty and her obsession with slimness, her sporting achievements and her exalted poems, all escaping the diktats of a court that sought to corset her fiery, freedom-loving personality. We follow the course of her life, from the carefree days of her youth in Bavaria, through her engagement to the Austrian emperor, to her assassination. We are moved by her parasols and gloves...

Inaugurated in 2004, the museum was enriched in 2006 by the Klauda collection of some 240 objects. Sissi's travel pharmacy, her collection of games and a toiletry set were thus incorporated into the museum. Other objects are presented on the occasion of special events or occasional exhibitions. In 2009, the museum was extended to include, among other spectacular exhibits, a reconstruction of the Hungarian coronation dress, as well as the scene of the young Sissi on her swing.

A ticket to the Sissi Museum also gives access to the palace's imperial apartments and to the history of the Habsburgs.

It's 16:49 and they're supposed to close in 40 minutes. I just arrived and wanted to ask a question. There were two men and a lady at the reception. One man opened the door and told me that they were closed, and I couldn't even ASK them what I wanted.

We didn't use the audio guide but I found the museum really badly laid out and it was very oddly structured - started with her death, and then went into her childhood and suddenly jumped to her mourning, interspersed with a lot of poetry.

We didn't know why she was mourning and nowhere on the walls in the incrediblly dimly lit rooms did it say. Perhaps it made sense if you used the audio guide but we didn't want to use that.

Be prepared for lots of people just standing about totally unaware of themselves blocking the way while they listen to audio guides.

Probably the worst laid out museum I've ever been to, with the least information about who she was and her life story. I got more information reading Wikipedia in the gardens afterwards.
