Built in 1958 as the Austrian pavilion for the World Exhibition, the building was repatriated to Vienna in 1962 and since 2011 has housed an art museum, which presents temporary exhibitions of international significance. The aim is to present Austrian art of the 20th and 21st centuries in an international context. It is also an artist's residence and a research facility that houses the Blickle Kino, an interface between art and film in a programme that focuses on the different angles of contemporary film and video production.
