KARL MARX HOF
Heritage of avant-garde social architecture and cradle of the new currents that inspire the urbanization of Vienna.
The huge Karl-Marx-Hof social complex symbolises Vienna the Red of the 1930s and the advent of the triumphant social democracy. Over a kilometre long, it has 1,325 dwellings, with an average size of 40 to 45 square metres - a dream for the working class families of the time! Places for meetings and exchanges were provided, with large courtyards and common rooms. A nightmare for the conservative forces that sought to fight a well-organized proletariat. This discovery can be an interesting stopover on the road to the wine villages.
