Originality of the Austrian capital, Vienna is imperial and... wine-producing. To the north of the city, at the foot of the Kahlenberg and Leopoldberg mountains covered with vineyards, nestle charming villages of winegrowers known for their Riesling or Grüner Veltliner. Integrated into the territory of Vienna, this vineyard and its wine cellars constitute a local particularity widely exploited and appreciated by locals and tourists alike. The tramway line n° 38 takes you to the heart of Austria, with an atmosphere that contrasts with that of the palaces of the city centre. Grinzing, the star attraction, and its neighbours, Sievering, Nussdorf, Kahlenbergdorf and Josefdorf, are typical small Austrian villages with baroque facades, churches with bulbous bell towers and lavish two-storey houses.
The wine-growing villages are dotted with Heuriger, inns where you can taste home-made wine with generous rural dishes. Grinzing has "professionalized" itself in this profile and one comes easily and willingly from Vienna for the rural charm of a wine tasting a stone's throw from the vineyards. The opportunity to verify that the reputation of Viennese whites is not usurped and the conviviality of rigour when it comes to tasting. A few stops are enough to introduce you to these typical wines! Move away from the tourist villages to go to the surrounding vineyards to find more traditional Heuriger. Since 2019, the tradition of the Viennese Heuriger has even become part of UNESCO's intangible cultural heritage.
