ALTENBURG ABBEY (STIFT ALTENBURG)
Benedictine abbey with cupolas, church with paintings by Paul Troger, apartments with the abbey treasury.
This Benedictine abbey was founded by Countess Hildeburge of Poigen-Rebgau in 1144. It was built in the 17th century, as it is seen today, in a harmonious baroque style, with its domes and rich decoration. Paintings by Paul Troger can be seen in the church, but also in the library. Also noteworthy are the apartments housing the abbey's treasury. There is a restaurant on site and accommodation is available.
