WATER GATE (WASSERTOR)
The building's mural recalls the shoot-out between the Danes and Austrians during the War of the Spanish Succession.
The building marks the Schärding townscape, as does the castle park. Formerly known as the "Inn Gate" or "Customs Tower", it leads to the banks of the river. Owned by the Dukes of Bavaria until 1570, the building features a mural depicting the shoot-out between the Danes and Austrians during the War of the Spanish Succession in 1703. The balcony above the door served as a pillory for the city's convicts.
