SALZBURG DISTRICT
Modern museum space with rich collections on the history of the Baroque city and the arts.
A tribute to the Baroque city of pageantry. Plan a full-day visit. With the opening of DomQuartier in 2014, an original plural museum has been created. A one-way ticket gives you access to four museums within the former prince-archbishopric center. Sumptuous historic buildings have been refurbished to house modern museum spaces featuring rich collections on the history of the Baroque city and the arts. Stroll through the remarkable squares of the old town, linking the various buildings to be visited. Discover the Residenzplatz with Residezbrunnen, the Cathedral with the Mariensule and the Old Market. Enjoy panoramic views from the cathedral's vaulted terrace overlooking the old town. Enjoy other magnificent views, like so many paintings, as you wander through the countless windows in the rooms and corridors of the DomQuartier. You're privileged to perceive 1,300 years of artistic history harmonizing art, architecture and music. This cultural and museum space brings together heritage sites in close proximity, forming a modern exhibition complex covering 15,000m2 (2,000 objects). These include the Residence of the Prince-Archbishops, with its ceremonial rooms and gallery, the Dommuseum, the Sankt-Peter Museum at St. Peter's Abbey, the oldest monastery in the German-speaking world, and the Nordoratorium, dedicated to the Baroque period. The DomQuartier offers a wide range of regularly changing exhibitions.
