MAUTERNDORF CASTLE (BURG MAUTERNDORF)
Magnificent episcopal castle housing life-size figurines evoking everyday medieval life.
This magnificent bishop's castle was built above a trading centre and toll station from 1253. The aim was to secure the border with the Duchy of Styria. In 1803, the secularization of the Prince-Archbishopric of Salzburg led to its ruin. In 1894, a Prussian military doctor ensured its restoration. Today, the castle belongs to the state. You will enjoy visiting the castle and discovering the life-size figures that evoke the daily life of the Middle Ages.
