AGUNTUM
Just 4 km from Lienz, the Roman city of Aguntum, in the province of Noricum, was promoted to a municipe with its own municipal rights under Emperor Claudius in the 1st century B.C. A flourishing trade and craft center until the5th century, it exported copper, wood, dairy products and rock crystals from the Tauern. Today, remains of a thermal bath, an atrium and a town gate have been discovered. Archaeological finds are on display at the Bruck Castle Museum and the Innsbruck Museum, revealing the region's rich history.
