This superb château, built in 1631 by François Mansart, has been a listed historic monument since 1981
A superb château built in 1631 by François Mansart and listed as a Monument Historique since 1981. As Baudelaire, a friend of the Marquis de Balleroy, put it: "Here, all is order and beauty, luxury, calm and pleasure". From the monumental staircase to the salons adorned with master paintings, from the dining room decorated with Regency woodwork to Queen Victoria’s bedroom furnished in the Louis XVI style, the visit is a journey back to the France of the Ancien Régime. The tour continues with a stroll through the splendid Le Nôtre-inspired gardens and the unusual Balloon Museum.
