Castle with 14 fortified gates in the valley east of Sankt Veit, home to the Herzogsthul or throne of the Dukes of Carinthia.
To the east of Sankt Veit, Hochosterwitz Castle dominates the valley. Visible for more than 30 km, it impresses with its 14 fortified gates, each with a special defence system against medieval invasions. It is said that no enemy has managed to get beyond the4th gate. Built from 860 onwards, the castle still preserves the Herzogstuhl, the throne of the Carinthian dukes carved out of stone of Roman origin. Entertainment.
