GURK CATHEDRAL (DOM)
Cathedral built between 1140 and 1200, a major work of Austrian Romanesque art, little altered and featuring a crypt with 100 columns.
This religious building is a major work of Austrian and even European Romanesque art. Built between 1140 and 1200, the cathedral has undergone exceptionally little alteration in the course of its history, which is why it is so precious today - only bulbous bell towers were added in the Baroque period. The crypt, which is the oldest part of the church, is notable for its 100 columns. It is a remarkable structure. For a long time the diocese was organized around this cathedral before it was moved to the cathedral of Klagenfurt.
