CHURCH OF MARIA SAAL (MARIA SAAL KIRCHE)
Church built in the century, a place of pilgrimage where you can admire the statue of the Virgin Mary and the southern door with its lantern of Death
The church of Maria Saal is an important place of pilgrimage. It dates from the 15th century, when it had a defensive role, first against the Magyars, then against the Turks - a defensive wall and two twin towers (made of volcanic stone) are still visible. Worth seeing: the south gate and its Lantern of Death, marble tombstones in Gothic style, the Romanesque ossuary with its two floors of galleries and the famous statue of the Virgin, dating from 1425, at the origin of the pilgrimage.
