JOANNEUMSVIERTEL
Three museums and a library housed in a magnificent historic building.
Graz is home to a marvellous museum complex that brings together three museums and a library in a magnificent historic building. A discovery not to be missed, to be made in several visits in order to better enjoy the exhibited and well valued treasures.
Neue Galerie. It is the museum of contemporary art of the city. It presents the artistic movements from the beginning of the 19th century to the end of the 20th century: Biedermeier, realism, classicism, impressionism, expressionism, abstraction... More than 60,000 works of art are on display (paintings, posters, objects, sculptures, videos, photographs). The captions of the works are written in German and English. Inside the Neue Galerie is the Bruseum, a space that presents the work of the Styrian artist Günter Bros, one of the founders of Viennese Actionism.
Multimediale Sammlungen. The Multimediale Sammlungen is one of the most important audiovisual collections in Austria. In a beautiful museography, you will discover a remarkable collection of more than 2 million photos, audio tracks and documentary films. It is above all a study and research centre for students and researchers.
Naturkundenmuseum. This is the museum of natural history. It presents a 400-million-year history of Styrian flora and fauna. A fascinating and informative development.
Finally, the library - Steiermärkischen Landesbibliothek - offers an exceptional catalogue of works on Styria
