MAIN SQUARE (HAUPTPLATZ)
This square was the commercial crossroads between Hungary and Italy.
This is the heart of the city. Graz's Hauptplatz is a triangular-shaped square. In the Middle Ages, it was a very important trading point between Hungary and Italy. In the centre of the square, a fountain erected in 1878 celebrates the memory of the "Prince of Styria", Archduke John of Austria, who was very popular in his time. In the square, you should not miss the imposing town hall, whose current silhouette dates from the late 19th century.
