This floating steel island is one of Graz's modern symbols.
One of Graz's modern symbols. This floating steel island was built to mark the Austrian city's designation as European Capital of Culture in 2003. Designed by the American architect Vito Acconci, it is a huge 47-metre-long floating shell linked by two footbridges to the banks of the Mur. It houses a café, an amphitheatre and a shop. The whole place was renovated in 2017. A trendy and unusual place.
