SCHLOSS FESTENBURG CASTLE (SCHLOSS FESTENBURG)
The castle is now home to the Catholic parish and St. Catherine's Church, adorned with Baroque frescoes.
Located north of Vorau, this castle was built in the 12th century. It was restored as a monastery in the 16th century. It is known for having welcomed Ottokar Kernstock (1848-1928), poet and canon of the Vorau abbey, to its walls on several occasions. It is now home to the Catholic parish and St. Catherine's Church with its beautiful Baroque frescoes by Johann Cyriak Hackhofer. The building is flanked by a historic mountain cemetery.
