Italian Baroque church featuring small niches with Passion scenes and the mausoleum of Joseph Haydn.
Known as Haydn's Church, the Bergkirche, a Baroque mountain church in Italian style, was built between 1770 and 1777 on the initiative of Prince Paul Esterházy. A richly ornamented porch leads to a more modest Calvary with narrow stairs and a path dug into a cave that leads to small niches with Passion scenes richly adorned with a hundred wooden statues. This church houses the mausoleum of Joseph Haydn who often played there.
