Built in 1460 by Hans Siebenhirter, the city's mayor, the cathedral incorporates Baroque as well as modern elements and a number of remarkable pieces. These include a pulpit dating from 1745, adorned with carved wooden bas-reliefs; a high altar decorated with an Apotheosis of Saint Martin, created in 1777 by Stephan Dorfmeister; a monumental statue of the same saint, patron saint of Burgenland, created by Jakob Adlhart; and the great organs, dated 1778. This church building, renowned for its acoustics, hosts prestigious classical music concerts.
