Dating from the 17th and 18thcenturies , the basilica is the most important pilgrimage center in northern Burgenland. People come here to pray to the Black Madonna of Loretto, a copy of a famous image of Italian origin, executed in 1644 at the request of the Lord of Stotzing. As the Italian model was destroyed in a fire, the Black Madonna of Loretto is now the oldest. Particularly worth seeing is the chapel, with its fine Baroque furnishings.
