Museum retracing the history of the first airmail flight between the United States and France and the epic story of the Fokker.

A beach, Gold Beach King (also known as La Rivière), men and two museums! In Ver-sur-Mer, between Arromanches and Courseulles, the Saint-Exupéry Centre, located right next to the town hall, is home to two different museum areas, both particularly well documented, for the story of two great events of the 20th century.

On one side, the America part of the museum, which retraces the 42 hours of the first airmail flight between the United States and France. We discover the epic story of the three-engine Fokker monoplane, called America. This flight left at 2am on June 29, 1927, with the Americans Byrd, Acosta, Balchen and Noville on board, and was normally expected at Le Bourget airport. Only bad weather combined with technical problems seriously complicated the affair... Forced to ditch on July1st in front of Ver-sur-Mer, they nevertheless succeeded where, between 1918 and 1932, 52 failed, 12 crews disappeared and 15 were forced to land at sea.

In a second phase, the Ver-sur-Mer museum relates the meticulous preparation of the Landing by the British on the King of Gold Beach sector, crowned by the victorious assault of the troops of the 69th Brigade of the 50th Division. With museum materials donated by D-Day veterans, this museum offers another look at a specific element of the Second World War. Models, photos and dioramas also allow visitors to relive the highlights of the D-Day landings with emotion. Not to be missed!

Petit parking gratuit devant. Pas très loin du British Normandy Memorial.
