FISHERMEN'S CHURCH (FISCHERKIRCHE)
Church built following the rescue of Queen Marie of Hungary, with pietà, medieval frescoes and Gothic stained glass windows.
It's the jewel of the town. Its origins date back to the 13th century. The chapel was built when fishermen from Lake Neusiedl rescued Queen Marie of Hungary, wife of King Béla IV, from Mongol troops. The Romanesque building was enlarged in Gothic style. A Baroque domed tower was later added. The church features superb medieval frescoes, the remains of Gothic stained-glass windows, an admirable pietà and a curious 15th-century Madonna.
