FORCHTENSTEIN CASTLE (BURG FORCHTENSTEIN)
Castle among the Esterházy sites, with weapons collections and Europe's baroque portrait gallery dedicated to the Esterházy family.
One of the four Esterházy sites. This mountain-perched fortress features collections of weapons, armor, banners, documents and precious objects, as well as Europe's largest gallery of baroque portraits dedicated to the Esterházy family. The jewel in the crown is the princely carriage, restored in 1995 for the exhibition dedicated to the Esterházy dynasty. A lovely stroll through the Rosalia massif leads to the 19th-century chapel of the same name, built by Count Paul Esterházy.
