The Benoliel Jewish Cemetery is considered a heritage preserving the Jewish memory in Cape Verde
Jewish graves are visible right next to the Marina Club. Despite several attempts to remove them, the graves still remain in their place. They belong to a family from the Jewish community who fled persecution in Morocco in the mid-19th century. The deceased were not allowed access to the common cemetery, and there is also the grave of a young English woman who died of yellow fever during an epidemic on the island. This place, which is steeped in history, is considered to be a heritage preserving the Jewish memory in Cape Verde.
