Mackerel (in kavala kavala) is at the honor of this festival, which usually takes place in late July in Mindelo on Avenida Marginal. Since its first edition in 2013, where it has collected 10 000 people, the number of participants is increasing. The mackerel is symbolically part of the culture and imagination of the inhabitants of Mindelo. Its affordable price, its fleshy flesh and the variety of preparations to which it lends itself make it a daily place for a large part of the population. The purpose of the event is to give nobility to this fish, which is usually associated with the poorest social categories. Mackerel is cooked there as a refined dish. Most restaurants in and around the city are present with their own mackerel creations, of course. In the programme: Cape Verdean live music, nautical competitions, exhibitions and debates on the theme of mackerel and finally in beauty, mackerel parade!
