MUSEUM OF TRADITIONAL ART
Museum of Traditional Art in Mindelo, with a permanent exhibition on the different phases of art and weaving
The former National Handicraft Center of Mindelo was created in April 1976 by a group of artists composed of Manuel Figueira, his wife Luisa Queiros and Bela Duarte. In 2008, and after years of renovation, the center reopened as a museum. The beautiful historical building, which is well worth a visit, belonged to Augusto Vera Cruz, a banker and senator, and served as a salon for the Mindelense bourgeoisie, who held balls and receptions there. A permanent exhibition shows the different phases of the art of weaving.
