It is a very good place to relax and do nothing.
Good walk around but not really a trail hike .
Certainly the best views and atmosphere to relax.
I stayed in the Maracuja room , a very spacious and breathtaking view. It does get a bit warm during the day as the breez didn't really get into the room . There are a lot of centipedes during my stay I wish they would have cleaned the room when I was out hiking . Nevertheless for the price you pay and considering how remote it is , I will still recommend it .

The Retreat is a lovely hotel off the beaten path, a real treasure for hikers and travelers seeking beautiful landscapes and peacefulness. Nearly all of the rooms have panoramic views of the mountain and the sea, the poolside bar is very relaxing and meals are simply delicious.
Tom is a wonderful and helpful host, with many stories to share about Santo Antão. The restaurant serves Cap Verdean food with an Irish or European twist, making it meals a true delight. There are hikes directly out of the hotel, and a lovely pool to cool off in after the days adventures. There is a garden/plantation on site, so many of the meals are made with homegrown fruit and vegetables. Just one recommendation: arrive by daylight as the road narrows before getting to the Retreat, and there is a short hike along the “stairway to heaven” that leads to the hotel. These are best done while there is still some daylight! Overall a wonderful stay. Many thanks to Tom and his crew.

However, the place is quite remote as it is only accessible from the town partly by taxi partly by going up stairs.
