At the end of Vila, the salt flats plunge you into a striking landscape, in the form of a vast lake 5 km long, dazzling white with light. Around it, a golden beach, dotted with acacia trees and grass where goats graze, and the green mountain backdrop contrast with the salt cones that sometimes take on shades of pink or purple. Once exploited by English merchants during the 17th and 18th centuries, the salt flats are a beautiful walk, allowing a small glimpse of the island's main activity.
