PRAÇA DOS RIQUECHOS
The riquechos are the old rickshaws, a kind of mobile cab chair. The hard work of these men, who had to bring back a fixed amount of money every day, without exception, under penalty of being fired by their employer, considerably reduced their lifespan. In general, this work was given to all those who came from outside and could not find anything else to live on. In all weathers, they were at work. They served as matchmakers for foreign visitors. In 1974, the system was abolished. Today, only the name remains.
