STATUE DE LUIS DE CAMÕES
The poet Luís de Camões (1524-1580) stopped over on the island of Mozambique in 1568 on his return from Goa. He would have stayed two years to work on the composition of the Parnassus of Luís de Camões, which included texts of poetry, philosophy and science. It is a stolen work and never found. A bronze statue of him is located on the southern seafront of the island (street of the Fighters). The house (next to Casa Girasol) where he is said to have lived has a carved door from Goa and is said to have been a slave trading post.
