The Munich Carnival is a city-wide celebration. Young and old dress up and there are balls everywhere.

Carnival - called Fasching in this part of Germany - puts the whole of Munich in a state of excitement. The children go in search of a nice costume, the older children look for a ball mask. The highlight is the "Weissen Feste", the white parties at the Max Emanuel bar (disco atmosphere in a room decorated entirely in white, the guests' costumes must also be white). On Shrove Tuesday, don't miss the "Marktweiber", the women's dance, which starts at 11 a.m. on the famous market square.
