Built on the plans of the famous Leo von Klenze, the propylée to the south-east of the Königsplatz (a propylée is originally a vestibule leading to a sanctuary, now it is used in the plural and designates monumental access, door) is copied to that of the Acropolis of Athens. Built in 1846 and 1862, they are in the middle of the axis of the Karolinenplatz obelisk.
