The LMU is the university in Germany with the best reputation both at home and abroad.
The LMU, founded in Ingolstadt by papal authorization, dates back to 1472. It played a key role in the history of European Humanism, and later distinguished itself as a hotbed of the Counter-Reformation. However, the university as such has only been resident in Munich since... 1826 ! Today, the university's main focus is the sciences, and it is proud to have hosted more than thirty Nobel Prize winners.
