SENDLINGER TOR
A gateway inherited from Munich's medieval fortifications and an important underground station today.
It is one of the three town gates that have survived to the present day, a testimony to the old medieval fortifications. More austere and rustic than its neighbour Karlstor, the Sendlinger Tor protected the southern entrance to the town and today separates the old town (Altstadt) from its southern suburb, Isarvorstadt. Dating from the 14th century, its two towers were added a century later. The Sendlinger Tor was hardly damaged during the Second World War. In the 1980s it was finally completely renovated.
