BOTANISCHER GARTEN
A visit to the botanical garden is a good combination with Nymphenburg: 19,000 species of plants live together on more than 22 hectares.
When the Munich Botanical Gardens are in full bloom, it is almost like being in a fairy tale. The fragrance that fills the gardens when the roses are in bloom is particularly captivating. The sound of insects and birdsong fills the air as frogs splash in the ponds between the water lilies. Inside the greenhouses, palms, orchids, cacti and butterflies allow visitors to enjoy a moment of summer, even in the depths of winter. Walking through the green paradise is like taking a trip around the world. This botanical garden was built between 1909 and 1914. It covers 22 hectares and has about 19,600 plant species. The rose garden (outside) and the Palmenhaus (palm house) with its many tropical plants are two places not to be missed. If you are lucky, you will cross paths with scientists, as the botanical garden is also used for research, for example for phenological studies (studies of the flowering and fruiting periods of plants). The garden is also a place of training or improvement for gardeners. Finally, insects are in paradise here, with bee species and many other insects finding a quiet refuge just a few steps away from the hustle and bustle of the city. It is said that 350,000 visitors of the genus Homo sapiens visit the Munich Botanical Garden every year, making it one of the most visited in Germany.
