Maximilianstrasse is Munich's equivalent of the Avenue des Champs-Élysées. Luxury shops and top brand names are all to be found here. It's well worth the detour, whether you're licking the shop windows or admiring the beautiful facades of the ministries scattered along the street. At the end of the avenue, there's a magnificent view of the Maximilianeum, the Bavarian parliament building. In the 19th century, King Maximilian II had the street redesigned in a unique style, combining neo-Gothic and Renaissance architectural elements.
