KAROLINENPLATZ
Site built in memory of the 30,000 Bavarians who enlisted in Napoleon's army and died in the Russian campaign.
Located south of the Königsplatz, this square built between 1809 and 1812 took place at the Etoile in Paris for model. The obelisk, in its midst, honors the memory of the 30 000 Bavarians recruited into Napoleon's armies and died during the Russian campaign. Indeed, Bavaria's history is closely linked to that of France, since it is one of Napoleon's partners. Karolinenplatz was named after King Maximilian's second wife, Princess Karoline of Baden. Today, the square is surrounded by buildings built after World War II, taking a little of its original stamp.
